Growing up the oldest of six children, Adam Rippon developed a sense of responsibility that he has carried into his skating. He learned how to balance multiple tasks, focus, see things through and give something your best even on a bad day. It also gave him some practical skills that enabled him to be self-sufficient when he left home to train.

"Helping my mom with my brothers and sisters really set me up to take care of myself and know how to do a lot of things that most kids don’t think about, like doing the laundry and making dinner," Rippon says. "It’s been a seamless transition to living on my own."

Now based in Toronto and training at the renowned Toronto Cricket Skating & Curling Club, Rippon is thriving in the intense and supportive atmosphere skating directors Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson have established.
