(Toronto, ON) - The Sears Stars on Ice presented by Samsung Tour is proud to congratulate cast member Cynthia Phaneuf, who captured gold on Saturday, January 22 at the 2011 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships. This was her first national title since 2004, which she won at the age of fifteen. Now at 23 years of age, Phaneuf scored an astonishing 111.55 points for her elegant free skate program to win gold with 172.32 points overall. Phaneuf was clearly in a class of her own, winning the competition by almost 15 points. Her free skate program was glowing with five immaculate triples, gorgeous laybacks, spirals, and powerful footwork.
Phaneuf has now earned a berth in the 2011 World Figure Skating Championships in Tokyo, Japan from March 21-27. After the competition, Cynthia will partake in the Sears Stars on Ice Presented by Samsung Tour, starting on April 21, which will visit 12 major cities nationwide.
