CBC TO BROADCAST SPECIAL PERFORMANCE FROM THE 2018 INVESTORS GROUP STARS ON ICE PRESENTED BY LINDT TOUR

2018 was a great year for Canadian Olympic Figure Skating with golden performances at the Winter Olympic Games, and a record-setting Stars on Ice celebration tour. There was no shortage of medals for the 2018 Canadian Olympic Figure Skating team at the Winter Olympic Games. Starting with a dominating Gold Medal performance in the Figure Skating Team event, Canada managed to grab medals in the Team, Pairs, Ice Dance and Ladies events. That same level of excitement and excellence was brought to life throughout the 2018 Investors Group Stars on Ice presented by Lindt tour, which was captured and turned into a one-hour special television broadcast that will air nationally on CBC on Thursday, December 20th from 9-10 PM local time (9:30-10:30 PM NT).

The annual Stars on Ice TV special, nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2014, always showcases the best of Canadian figure skating.  This year’s program is a perfect example, featuring no less than eight 2018 Olympic medalists, including; two-time Olympic Gold Medalists, three-time World Champions and eight-time National Ice Dance Champions Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir; 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist, three-time World Champion, and ten-time National Champion Patrick Chan; 2018 Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalist, 2018 World Gold Medalist and three-time National Champion Kaetlyn Osmond; 2018 Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalists, two-time World Champions, and seven-time National Pair Champions Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford; 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist, 2017 World Bronze Medalist, and two-time National Champion Gabrielle Daleman; and 2018 Olympic Bronze Medalist, two-time World champion and six-time consecutive European champion Javier Fernández.

The cast in this year’s special is not exclusive to 2018 Olympic Medalists. Also featured are two of the most decorated and beloved Canadian figure skaters of all-time: two-time Olympic Silver Medalist, three-time World Champion, and seven-time National Champion Elvis Stojko; and Olympic Bronze Medalist, World Champion and three-time National Champion Jeffrey Buttle; as well as 2015 National Ice Dance Champions, three-time World Medalists and 2018 Olympians Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje.

Directed and choreographed by Jeffrey Buttle, the Stars on Ice TV special was recorded during the 2018 tour performance at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, ON, last May. The TV special will also serve as a preview for the 2019 Stars on Ice tour which will visit 12 cities nationwide beginning in Halifax, NS on Friday, April 26th, and wrapping up in Vancouver, BC on Thursday, May 16th.
