Biography

Known for their infectious energy and rapid ascent in the skating world, Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud have quickly established themselves as one of Canada’s top pairs teams. Named to Team Canada for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, this dynamic duo brings a unique blend of athleticism and charisma to the ice.

Their partnership began in the summer of 2022 under unique circumstances. Trennt, a dedicated pair skater, was searching for a new partner, while Lia was still competing internationally in women’s singles. Despite Lia having not trained in pairs since the novice level, their connection was instant. After a tryout that lasted just one week, their coaches (Alison Purkiss and Nancy Lemaire) were convinced they were a match. They have since been affectionately nicknamed the “golden retrievers” of the skating world due to their shared high energy and genuine love for their work.

Pereira and Michaud’s progression has been nothing short of meteoric. Just six months after forming their partnership, they made a stunning debut at the 2023 ISU World Championships, finishing an impressive sixth. They have continued to build on that success, claiming medals at ISU Grand Prix events and championships over the last few seasons.

Entering the Olympic season with momentum, the team secured a bronze medal at the 2025 Four Continents Championships and captured their first Canadian National title and World Bronze medal in 2026.

On the ice, the pair is known for their “thoughtful passion” and technical capability. Off the ice, Lia is a student at the University of Guelph majoring in business management. Trennt is a student at McMaster University and is interested in strength and conditioning coaching. He is also an avid disc golfer. Together, they embody the philosophy that while skating is their job, their deep connection ensures it never feels like work.
